Overview

Oxigen Green Bin Collection

Waste Collection, segregation, recycling and disposal services are provided to householders by South Dublin, Dublin City and Fingal and in the case of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown private operators. The new recycle based management system is based on the idea that if you produce waste, you should pay for its removal and disposal i.e. the 'polluter pays' principle.   A specific household environmental charge has been introduced by each local authority across the region.

Householders should be aware that if you pay your charge on time you  qualify for tax relief. In order to qualify, you must return your P.P.S. number, (formerly your RSI Number), on the form provided with the bill. The Revenue Commissioners will be informed of all qualifying payments for the next tax year.

Current Charges

In 2005 Dublin City Council introduced a pay-by-volume/use system for all householders using both the wheeled bins and bags for their waste. This initiative has encouraged householders to reduce the amount of waste they produce and recycle more.  For further information click here

Fingal County Council have had such a system in place since 2002.  To get up to date information regarding waste charges in Fingal please click here

South Dublin County Council launched the scheme in February 2004. For further information please click here

Waiver Schemes

All of the Dublin Region's local authorities operate a generous waiver or reduced charge scheme exempting low-income households from paying waste charges. The waivers applies to households whose sole income is a Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs allowance or pension and households whose total income is exempt from income tax. People on low income may also qualify.

Waiver application forms are enclosed with bills.
