| How the Plan affects you |

The Dublin Waste Management Plan 2005-2010 aims towards achieving 59% recycling, 25% incineration and 16% landfill. In order to achieve these targets the plan proposes a number of measures which will have a positive affect on the Region:

Increased staff in the Local Authorities to promote waste prevention
- There are now 5 Environmental Awareness Officers in the region, 3 Green Schools Officers and 2 Green Business Officers. -
Additional materials to be collected in the Green bin service
- All Plastic packaging can now be accepted in the green bin.

Collection of household organic waste in new Brown Bin- - Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council have commenced the rollout of the brown bin service.

More Recycling Centres and Bring Banks
- There are now 11 recycling centres present in the Dublin Region and 321 brink banks. -
Waste storage guidelines for apartments to be enforced.

More household garden waste drop off points
-There are now 8 facilities in Dublin that accept household garden waste. -
Increase Producer Responsibility Initiatives
-There is an established WEEE collection system in Dublin with recycling centres accepting the vast majority of WEEE. There is also an End of Life Vehicle scheme where individuals can bring their End of Life vehicles to an Authorized Treatment Facility for recycling free of charge and a new Batteries Directive came into force in late 2008, making it easier to recycle your batteries. -
More commercial and industrial recycling
- 48% of commercial/industrial waste is now being recycled -
