Household Hazardous Wastes

We come into contact with hazardous waste in the home every day without probably realising it.  Everyday items can contain hazardous elements which if not disposed of properly can cause a risk of pollution to the environment.

Hazardous waste items SHOULD NOT be presented with normal household waste i.e. in the mixed black bin waste for collection. Instead hazardous waste should be separated at source (in the home) and brought to a local collection point for safe recovery or disposal.  These are typically recycling centres and community bring centres.

Householders should also be aware that there are alternative locations such as libraries and council offices where certain items can be recycled.  A number of retail outlets also have charity collection schemes and will take back mobile phones and ink cartridges.
