| Dublin's Annual Waste Progress Report |
The Dublin Local Authorities have today published the Dublin Waste Plan Annual Progress Report 2008.
The report provides an update on the implementation of the Waste Plan and progress in achieving recycling and diversion from landfill targets.
The report shows that recycling rates have increased further with a municipal waste rate of 41% recorded. The report also highlights the need for the region to continue the widespread rollout of the brown bin to push on the diversion of biodegradable waste materials from landfill.
The report states that:
- The overall generation of municipal waste decrease slightly (by 1%) in 2007, in contrast to 2006;
- Recycling rates generally remained steady with slight increases in relation to household and commercial waste streams;
- The diversion of biodegradable waste from landfill is a priority with a significant reduction required to reach the 2013 target;

Key statistics from the report are:
- The quantity of municipal waste recycled increased by 1%, household waste by 1% and packaging waste by 3%%.
- 41% of municipal waste was recycled, and is progressing towards the target of 45% by 2010.
- 28% of household waste was recycled. Further increases are anticipated with the rollout of the brown bin across the region.
- 52% of packaging waste was recycled.
- The collection of 10.9kg of household waste electrical and electronic equipment per capita in the region exceeds the national and European targets.
- The disposal of biodegradable waste to landfill decreased by 11%.
