January 1st 2009 - Greyhound Recycling and Recovery took over the green bin contract and plastics found a new home in the green bin. Greenbin.ie was also born to provide customers with information about the green bin waste collection service.
January 19th 2009 the Dublin region achieved an objective set out in the Waste Management Plan when it received a regional Materials Recycling Facility. The facility is located in Ballymount and processes material collected through the green bin collection service. Find out more here...

February 2009 saw the launch of 'Put litter in it's Place' a new anti-litter initiative hosted on DublinWaste.ie. The website was launched by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

To date the site has received over 4,700 visitors. One to watch in 2010!
March 2009 saw Dublin City Council open a new bring centre in Glasnevin providing the area with its first bring centre!
In South Dublin the 11th Eco-Awareness week kicked off on March 30th and ran until April 3rd. The aim of the week was to raise public awareness of environmental issues through a series of free organised workshops, seminars and exhibitions.
